The Allegany County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) is the primary law enforcement agency for Allegany County, Maryland. The ACSO is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency servicing 430 square miles. Allegany County Sheriff's Office is a progressive Public Safety agency responsible for the protection of all citizens in Allegany County, by providing for the preservation of peace, a safe and secure detention center, and the security of our courts.
Allegany County Sheriff's Office decided that they were going to take a leap into the future for the 2023 calendar year and made a significant investment in their training by purchasing an Apex Officer X2 training simulator. Apex Officer has designed, developed, and built a state-of-the-art virtual reality training simulator that enables police officers to train for real-life encounters. This simulator is so good, that it actually makes the police officers and Sheriff's deputies feel like they are actually in the situation, without having to actually be there.
Although the Apex Officer simulator purchased with the goal of full rolling out the system in 2023, the Apex Officer delivered and deployed the system in early Q4 of 2022. ACSO staff and deputies are still in the early stages of their introduction to VR training, but from the feedback we've seen it's a popular piece of technology within the agency.
